Perry Tobi Tukuwei Jr. is a Broadcast Journalist, Bayelsa’s First Socio Political Vlogger, Radio and Television On Air Personality, Master of Ceremonies, Public Policy and Governance Consultant, Research Assistant and Part Time Lecturer.
Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, Perry’s foray into public life started when he was appointed a One Day Commissioner for Works, Lagos State in 2001 as a result of his exceptional spelling prowness. In 2009, he bagged a B.Sc. degree in Political Science from the Niger Delta University as the Best Graduating Student from the Philosopher Kings Department. In the same year, he was part of the school’s contigent to the Zain African Challenge (An Inter University Quiz Competition).
His career in broadcast journalism started in 2011. After a stint in lagos, he relocated to Bayelsa to continue in the pen profession. In 2014, he won an online poll as the Best Niger Delta University Alumni Student of the Year. Later that year, he won the Best Television Presenter award by African Independent Television (AIT). The following year, he bagged the award for the Best NDU Alumni of the Year by the Student Union Government.
In 2016, The prodigy (as he is fondly called) won the award for the Best On Air Personality of the Year award. His contributions to the broadcast media industry did not go unnoticed in 2017 when he clinched the Best Television Presenter Award at the Bayelsa Media Awards ceremony. He was also nominated for the award of ‘Best Media Personality of the Year’ in 2017 and 2018.
In January this year, Bashorun acheived a milestone of being amongst a handful of broadcast journalists to anchor 100 episodes of a current affairs programme on television, Inside Bayelsa on African Independent Television Bayelsa Bureau.
A throughbred in script writing and documentaries, his clientele includes the Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Army 16 Brigade amongst others.
His quest for a better Bayelsa endeared him to always speak about the ills in the state and proffer solutions. This, he does through his vlog ‘Perry Speaks’ on Facebook as well as the hastags ‘#BayelsaFirst #BayelsaAlways.
He also stands in front of a group called ‘The Intellectual Gang’ that provides policy options as well as advocacy in the business of governance and development particularly in The Glory of All Lands.
He partners with young intellectuals and influencers to deliver high end projects including Spelling Bee Bayelsa, The Gathering, The Resourceful Woman Conference, Bayelsa Converge, The Bayelsa Roundtable, The Money Conference, Niger Delta CEO Summit, Bayelsa Media Awards, Bayelsa Food and Drinks Festival, Speak Up Bayelsa, Young Leaders Conference and Tedx Yenagoa where he leads the Operations Team amongst other projects.
He also serves as Media Consultant to the BMAA, Lockers Magazine and Tokoni Music/Media Academy.
His penchant for a broadcast media industry swarmed with individuals with ‘content’ snowballed into the ‘Presenters Masterclass’ an annual class for new entrants in the media industry. Its inagural session in 2018 gave birth to 31 participants who went on to intern in four radio stations in Bayelsa and Delta States.
A native of Toru Ndoro in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, he has a Master of Science M.Sc. (in view) degree in Development Studies with a hindsight on a Ph.D in the same discipline.
The BBC trained journalist also covers field reports on the environment, sports, entertainment, women in politics, people with special needs, technology and the nigerian armed forces.
He currently ‘plies his trade’ with Daar Communications Plc Bayelsa Bureau as an Editor, Content Producer as well as Radio and Television Presenter.
